Former National Coach of the Canadian Para Fencing Team, with international experience in wheelchair fencing, athlete development and competition environments.

In 2013, Yousef Alaghehband established Canada’s first men’s national para épée team. Canada had previously been represented by two individual Paralympic fencers.
After just nine months of preparation, the new team finished fifth in the team event at the Montréal World Cup, defeating experienced opponents including the United States and Argentina. Both opposing teams had more than ten years of experience.
Under his coaching, Canadian athletes later won continental titles in individual and team competitions.
Alaghehband coached members of Canada’s national para fencing team for ten years, including Sylvie Morel, a four-time Paralympian.
His international collaborations also include the national para fencing teams of China, South Korea and Brazil.
In addition to coaching, he has served for many years as an international para fencing referee and is identified as Canada’s only male international para fencing referee.
